Want to discover the beauty of Fez during your next vacation? Then you're probably looking for the best place to stay in the imperial city... In this guide, I share my top recommendations along with tips for choosing the right neighborhood to stay in Fez

Nestled in the heart of Morocco, Fez is filled with history, culture, and a unique ambiance that can transport anyone to another time. The terracotta walls, ornate doors, colorful market stalls, and intoxicating scents of spices create a vivid tapestry of richness preserved for centuries, especially its medina listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Beyond its remarkable architecture, Fez is also renowned for its prestigious academic institutions, including the famous Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded in the 9th century and considered the oldest active university in the world. It's a true intellectual center that has attracted renowned scholars and thinkers over the centuries.

In summary, Fez is a superb vacation destination if you are in search of sun and multiple discoveries. That's why choosing your accommodation well will allow you to fully enjoy your stay, in a comfortable environment and practical location for your activities!

How to find accommodation in Fez?

If you want to have a great vacation in Morocco, and particularly in Fez, I recommend carefully choosing the location of your accommodation. Ideally, it would be good to stay in a modern neighborhood, where you will find plenty of restaurants, bars, and all the amenities.

Indeed, staying in the medina of Fez promises an authentic and traditional vacation, but once night falls, activities are few. Therefore, I recommend opting for neighborhoods such as Bab Boujloud and Nouvelle Ville, two modern areas located just steps away from the historical heart

Of course, I can only encourage you to stay in a traditional Riad. Just like the riads in Marrakech, these are the most sought-after accommodations due to their enchanting settings! The quality/price ratio is often excellent, with rooms that include breakfast.

And if you don't have time to read the article all the way through, here is a selection of the 3 best places to stay in Fez:

My favorite places to stay in Fez ❤️

In the Agdal neighborhood, Bloemen Huis is a spacious accommodation, featuring a terrace with a balcony, and two bedrooms, starting from €78 per night.

Riad Soultana offers comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms, with breakfast included, starting from €62 per night.

One of the popular places to stay in Fez is undoubtedly the Medina! Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Medina is known for its medieval architecture, labyrinthine alleys, and rich history. This neighborhood is fascinating and ideal, especially if you love riads.

The Medina is divided into two main parts: Fès el-Bali, the old town, and Fès el-Jedid, the new town. Fès el-Bali is the historic heart of the Medina and is home to some of its most iconic sites. As you walk through its narrow alleys, you'll discover lively markets, beautiful mosques, as well as madrasas (Quranic schools) and magnificent palaces.

One of the most famous attractions in this area is the renowned Al-Quaraouiyine University, founded in 859, which is considered the oldest university in the world; it has played a major role in the intellectual prominence of Morocco and North Africa. Alongside this, you will come across many historic houses, fountains, and traditional courtyards to relax in

Of course, the neighborhood is home to many traditional souks with local products such as carpets, ceramics, jewelry, and spices. As well as many stands to taste traditional Moroccan dishes such as couscous, tagine, and delicious honey cakes. Don't forget about the tanneries in Fez where leather is still treated in accordance with traditional know-how!

In summary, the Medina of Fez is a historical and cultural treasure, offering a total immersion in Moroccan tradition. With its splendid architecture, lively souks, and unique ambiance, you'll enjoy staying in one of the many riads available for vacationers

What is the best time to visit Fez?

The best time to visit Fez is in spring or autumn! During these seasons, the temperatures are pleasant, with sunny days and moderate temperatures. It's perfect for making the most of the tourist attractions without being bothered by the summer heat!

On the other hand, during the summer, temperatures often exceed 35 degrees. Summer months can be quite dry, with little precipitation, which is not always pleasant. As for the winter season, days are sunny, but be careful, temperatures drop at night.

Overall, spring and autumn offer a more pleasant climate for exploring Fez, with mild temperatures and comfortable sunshine. But that's not all, prices are generally more appealing, especially for flight tickets and hotel rooms
