What If It Were Possible?
The project > was initially set to start in 2017. We explain the reasons for this delay here: Detour. This time, it's the right moment, we are more ready than ever with a departure in May 2019!
After years spent traveling the roads of the world, a desire has emerged: to give meaning to our wanderings. This desire was born on the roads, nourished by all the beautiful encounters and experiences we've been fortunate enough to live through. Volunteering in a school in Ecuador. Volunteering in a street children's center in Bolivia. Leading activities in an environmental education NGO and providing social support to the children of a village in Patagonia...
An Obvious Choice
A social, educational, environmental, and intercultural project. That's it!
At each stage of the journey, the idea is to share our adventure with the children of the Americas, showing them through images the beauty of their >: their region, their country, their continent... their planet! We believe that children represent the future and that education is one of the main avenues for change. But children are also a gateway to homes, families, and ways of living in society. By visiting schools and youth centers, we hope to plant seeds and open dialogue with society as a whole.
The journey is eminently social, and even more: with a 4X4, it becomes possible to reach the less frequented and more isolated regions of the Americas, in order to create connections between peoples and cultures.
Discovering and knowing the beauties of your region is a first step towards its preservation. From these encounters, we also want to highlight the great cultural richness as much as the profound humanity, which, as Josef Schovanec says, connects us all. All so different and yet so similar at the same time.
An Environmental, Intercultural, and Social Project
Often, humans turn their gaze towards the distant: the Elsewhere fascinates! And by looking too much at the neighbor's garden, we forget our own.
Like the teenage girl from the Galapagos Islands who dreamed of leaving her village to live in New York, a city idealized by numerous TV series. Her dream of elsewhere prevented her from realizing how fabulously magical the place where she lived truly was. Or like that man from the Andes who thinks that living in the West is the best thing on Earth: with huge televisions and phones everywhere, Westernized populations are all rich and happy.
To create reflection and a real concern for the preservation of the planet, let's start by rediscovering our regions and appreciating them at their true value. This is the first message we want to convey to the children we meet.
Why Travel in a 4X4?
By launching this project, we are pleased to become ambassadors of Travel With A Mission (TWAM), a non-profit organization that aims to create a platform for exchange and meeting between NGOs, schools, and other host structures (Twamhosts) and people wishing to invest in a project (Twamers).
Launched by Ludovic Hubler, whom we had the pleasure of meeting (and whose book I've devoured >), TWAM is a beautiful initiative that is very useful for us: the platform allows us to connect with schools open to our approach.
In Numbers
From north to south, from plains to mountains, through forests and deserts, a great adventure awaits us... And the key word is autonomy. We want to be able to move as freely as possible. To capture the beautiful lights at dawn and sunset in remote settings and observe wildlife and flora at the best times of the day. And to access the more isolated villages and communities in the Americas.
We initially sought an electric vehicle, for the most eco-friendly trip possible. Unfortunately, the range of a standard car (with the exception of Tesla, but there the budget limits us) is not yet suited for the type of journey we are undertaking.
But we remain hopeful that in a few years, we will be able to embark on another continent, with a different vehicle, more ecological and more in line with our image.
Budget
One of the big questions: what budget for such a project? We are not the kings and queens of figures and forecast tables, but fortunately, we are quite good at saving money, and this has been going on for 9 years!
Our Sponsors
For this grand project, we have called upon sponsors and have received the support of several partners. Thank you to them!
Front Runner
Front Runner, the adventure accessory brand for cars known for the quality, smart design, and durability of its equipment, was immediately captivated by our project and is providing us with significant material support that we will detail in the upcoming months through articles and videos!
AVI
AVI, a specialist in travel insurance, offers insurance specifically designed for long-term travelers, aptly named >! Well thought out, it covers... almost everything: hospitalization, medical expenses, repatriation, baggage insurance, private life civil liability.
During our participation as jury members for the AVI International Solidarity Travel Scholarship in 2015, we were able to discover the behind-the-scenes of AVI and greatly appreciated the values it promotes. AVI therefore supports us by covering our travel insurance for this grand project!
What Productions After the Trip?
We will share throughout the adventure on our blog and social media, with photos, videos, and articles. But that's not all!
We also want to develop this project to create a media testimony of this human adventure. We do not yet know if it will take the form of a photo book and/or a video report and/or a travel narrative book. Anything is possible... The road will tell us.
