One of the advantages of Koh Phangan is that the island is not very big. In other words, no matter your point of arrival, you can easily move around to discover the surroundings. Additionally, I can recommend renting a scooter or a car, and if you're interested, boat taxis are also a great way to get around the area!

To ensure you find a place to stay in Koh Phangan, head to the southern part. This is the liveliest and most festive area of Koh Phangan and the richest in terms of accommodation. As for the north of the island, it's a calmer area with beautiful beaches, and the west offers an excellent compromise between the two. In any case, remember to book your accommodation in advance to get the best prices!

Often considered the main entry point to the island due to its port welcoming ferries from Surat Thani and Koh Samui, Thong Sala offers a charming and diverse atmosphere. It's a great base if you plan to move around regularly!

The heart of Thong Sala is its night market, which takes place almost every evening. It's a must-visit spot for souvenir shopping, handicrafts, and local delicacies. The atmosphere is lively, with music and a variety of food stalls ranging from Thai dishes to more international flavors.

As for Thong Sala beach, it's a peaceful spot to relax and admire spectacular sunsets. You'll also find various bars and restaurants, along with amenities such as banks, post offices, supermarkets, and schools, making it quite convenient!

For culture enthusiasts, you can visit Wat Thong Sala, a renowned Buddhist temple that is perfect if you wish to learn more about Thai spirituality and culture while admiring the architecture and religious rituals. Without a doubt, Haad Yao is one of the most popular beaches in Koh Phangan. Located on the west coast of the island, this beach is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, fine sand, and relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal choice if you aspire to a vacation marked by tranquility and natural beauty!

The beach stretches about 1 kilometer long, sufficient for bathers, tanning enthusiasts, and watersports. The waters are shallow and quite calm, which is great for families with children, for diving, and even kayaking.

The landscape surrounding Haad Yao is breathtaking, with verdant hills lined with coconut trees tumbling into the turquoise sea. Numerous small restaurants and bars dot the beach for enjoying wonderful traditional Thai specialties while taking in the stunning sunset views.

If you seek calm, know that Haad Yao's nightlife is more relaxed than in some other parts of Koh Phangan, but there are a few spots to party. For instance, local bars often host themed nights and fire shows to bring energy and entertainment!

Baan Tai, for better value for money

I love Baan Tai in Koh Phangan because this small village located between Haad Rin and Thong Sala offers direct proximity to the most popular spots on the island, but at much more affordable prices

The place is also quieter than its neighbors! No Full Moon Party here, but you will still find a few bars, restaurants, and markets where the atmosphere is lively. It's also in Baan Tai that the Halfmoon Party is held every month, which is somewhat the 'soft' version of the full moon parties

Baan Tai is not just a party spot; it's also a village rich in cultural and natural heritage You will find pristine paradise beaches all along the coast where the water is shallow, which is ideal if you are traveling with family. On the hillside, you can also venture to discover a Buddhist monastery called Wat Khao Tham. Finally, don't miss the local market in Baan Tai to taste delicious Thai specialties

Haad Salad, on the wild west coast

Much further to the northwest, Haad Salad is often considered one of the best tourist destinations in Koh Phangan, and there are several reasons for this

Once a favorite spot for pirates and smugglers, Haad Salad is home to one of the wildest and best-preserved beaches on the entire island. Away from the parties and excesses, it's a place cherished by families, and since we are on the west coast, you can obviously enjoy a magnificent show every evening at sunset

Relaxation is not the only thing attracting tourists to Haad Salad Exploring a bit around, you will discover Wangsai waterfall and Mae Haad beach (a unique landscape in the world, as it is connected to another island in the archipelago by a sandbank ).

If you fall in love with this place, I advise you to book accommodation well in advance! Indeed, the availability of accommodation is more limited than in other parts of the island.

The hotel restaurant is currently under renovation, but you will still be able to have meals (if you choose this at the time of booking). For the night, expect a starting price of €72.

Cookies Salad Resort: Located directly on Salad Beach, this property offers a very cozy setting that I loved. Whether it's the rooms, bungalows, or villas, everything is tastefully decorated. The infinity pool adds even more charm to the place. You can stay there starting at €41 with breakfast included.

Chalok Lam, for a more authentic experience

Nestled on the northeast coast of the island, Chalok Lam is a unique and authentic village that offers a perfect blend of its natural beauty, deep tranquility, and exciting activities.

Chalok Lam beach is one of the most beautiful on the island, with its fine sand and crystal-clear waters. It's typically the kind of place for resting, swimming, and sunbathing. Diving enthusiasts will also find happiness here, as the nearby coral reefs are home to diverse marine life.

As for the village itself, it boasts a picturesque atmosphere, with small streets lined with shops, local restaurants, and cozy bars. You will notice that the atmosphere is very laid-back and authentic, relatively far from the hustle and bustle of Koh Phangan's livelier beaches!

If you're looking to discover more of the island's natural wonders, Than Sadet-Ko Phangan National Park is nearby: hiking trails and panoramic views await you from the mountain's summit! You can also visit Than Sadet waterfall, a popular destination for nature lovers.

If you enjoy boat excursions, head to Koh Tao, famous for diving, or Ang Thong Marine Park, a preserved paradise of uninhabited islands and spectacular marine landscapes. If Chalok Lam meets your expectations, don't hesitate to discover the best hotels available there!

What is the best time to visit Koh Phangan?

The best time to visit Koh Phangan is from December to February when the weather is dry and temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. It's perfect weather for enjoying the beach, scuba diving, and hiking. But beware of prices, as this period attracts all the tourists!

If you travel during the rainy season from June to October, know that the island is less crowded due to regular downpours. However, it remains lush and may be pleasant if that doesn't bother you. Of course, prices are much more interesting, which might suit you if you have a limited budget.

In summary, it's up to you! Personally, I advise against the rainy season. It's not ideal to fully enjoy Koh Phangan, not to mention the relatively high humidity!

That's it for this article! I hope you now know where to stay in Koh Phangan during your next trip.
