The historic center of Saint-Malo will certainly be the first option that comes to mind. In my opinion, this area is the best for a worthy tourist stay! Thus, you will enjoy life within the medieval ramparts of the Breton city and discover all the major must-see attractions

When looking for a hotel to sleep in Saint-Malo, you will have plenty of options at your fingertips. It is a highly sought-after tourist destination, but expect high prices. If you have a limited budget, it would be better to stay away from the heart of the city and look elsewhere

Among the things to do in Saint-Malo, I suggest that above all you take the time to walk through the medieval city to immerse yourself in its charm. During your walk, you will come across notable monuments such as the Saint-Vincent Cathedral and the Château de la Duchesse Anne

That's why I highly recommend discovering the Grande Plage du Sillon, known to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Saint-Malo, ranking as the 10th most beautiful beach in Europe!

If you are looking for rental apartments and vacation homes in Saint-Malo, and being outside the center doesn't bother you too much, then consider Rothéneuf as your base. It is a fairly peaceful seaside neighborhood located about 15 minutes by car from the historic center of Saint-Malo

This neighborhood is home to Val Beach, a beautiful stretch of fine sand that also boasts a lush and green setting. It's a great spot to discover if you're visiting Saint-Malo with family, ideal for swimming even at low tide, as well as for beautiful walks to Pointe de la Varde

One of the most emblematic features of Rothéneuf is its carved rocks, no less than 300 granite statues representing legendary faces, created by Abbé Fouré at the end of the 19th century. Another site worth seeing is the Jacques Cartier Museum dedicated to the Breton explorer who discovered Canada in 1534. This mansion-museum tells his story in connection with the discovery of the New World!

Dinard can be a fallback solution if you cannot find suitable accommodation within your budget or if no establishments are available during your stay dates

Believe it or not, the town is just across from Saint-Malo, on the other side of the Rance. To reach the historic city center, you will need to account for a 20-minute drive. If this idea doesn't sound appealing (I understand), you can also opt for a boat crossing Dinard - Saint-Malo in just 10 minutes

If you choose to sleep in Dinard, you will have the opportunity to discover a very nice seaside resort that is highly sought after by American and English tourists. The town stands out for its beautiful Belle Époque villas and architectural heritage.

Saint-Malo is a charming medieval city that adapts to all seasons, showcasing every facet of its personality. If you wish to make a quick hop to the Breton city, the best time will be between May and September. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the days are sunny

For travelers on a tight budget, the best time will certainly be in April, May, or September when tourist crowds are a bit lower. Accommodations will also be slightly more available and offer better prices compared to the summer season.

How to get to Saint-Malo?

Saint malo train station
Saint malo train station photo by unsacsurledos.com

If you are wondering how to get to Saint-Malo, the first mode of transportation I recommend 100% is the train. The city has a train station located about a 10-minute walk from the historic center For example, from Paris Montparnasse, it takes about 2 hours to travel to Rennes station. Then, you will board a new train to reach Saint-Malo in 1 hour. You can compare prices on Trainline to find the best deals!

On the other hand, if you prefer to drive to Saint-Malo, that's possible Again, from Paris, it takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes by road. The route is relatively simple; you just need to follow the A10, A11, and A81 highways toward Rennes before taking the expressway leading to Saint-Malo.

Using a car to get to Saint-Malo is not necessarily the option I would choose. Once there, you will have difficulty finding a free parking area. Saint-Malo is a highly regulated city, and although it's not forbidden to drive, it's not the most fluid means of transportation.

That's it for this comprehensive article, I hope it has helped you find places to sleep in Saint-Malo! If you are considering exploring Brittany and are still unsure where to sleep in Nantes or where to sleep at Mont Saint-Michel, I also have articles on that. See you soon for more articles
