What to Do in Saint-Tropez?
What activities to do during a stay in Saint-Tropez? This is certainly the question you're asking if you've decided to visit one of the most upscale towns on the French Riviera! Although the town is not very large, Saint-Tropez has beautiful places to see and various activities to do: relax on Pampelonne Beach, wander around the Place des Lices market, stroll along the harbor, and visit museums...
So, how to visit Saint-Tropez and what to do during your stay? Here are my favorite activities:
Swimming and Relaxing on Pampelonne Beach!
Pampelonne Beach is one of the most beautiful on the French Riviera and a must-visit destination when spending a few days in Saint-Tropez. It stretches for just under 5 kilometers, revealing a fine sandy beach bordered by crystal-clear waters... From a historical perspective, Pampelonne Beach became popular thanks to Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s with the release of the film And God Created Woman!
It's the best place to enjoy the sun, swim, and engage in water sports! Pampelonne Beach is only 10 minutes from the center of Saint-Tropez, and it is lined with various restaurants, beach clubs hosting exclusive parties, and shops for visitors' comfort...
Book Your Activities Now!
Due to its seaside location, Saint-Tropez offers access to various water activities. If you wish, you can enjoy a catamaran cruise. For €45 per person, embark on a 2-hour evening sea outing. Bring your swimsuit and towel, then take a dip in the water! After swimming, enjoy an appetizer. Those with a hearty appetite can also bring a meal to enjoy alongside the appetizer
Strolling at the Provençal Market of Place des Lices
The Place des Lices is a true institution in Saint-Tropez, particularly known for its open-air Provençal market held every Tuesday and Saturday morning. This is where you'll discover local flavors, craftsmanship, and colorful, aromatic fresh produce... Aromatic herbs, flowers, pottery, soaps, fabrics, and local specialties await you in an authentic and popular ambiance!
Hiking at Cap Camarat
Located to the south of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, Cap Camarat is a spectacular natural site! Dominated by one of the tallest lighthouses in France, this place is perfect for hiking enthusiasts. Of course, it's an exceptional spot if you simply want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center!
From the Cap Camarat lighthouse, you can admire Saint-Tropez, Pampelonne Beach, and the vastness of the Mediterranean Sea! The site also features exceptional biodiversity, including sea birds and reptiles that you may encounter along the trails around the cape
For water sports lovers, you can enjoy the landscape around Cap Camarat by participating in a guided kayak tour. For €60 per person, you can paddle along the coastline, from Pampelonne Beach to the Cap Camarat peninsula. The outing is organized in the late evening and includes time for swimming or simply taking a break on the beach to admire the sunset
Visit the Musée de l'Annonciade
Founded in 1950 by Georges Grammont in a former 15th-century chapel, the Musée de l'Annonciade showcases beautiful collections of 19th and 20th-century paintings ranging from works by Paul Signac and Matisse to those of George Braque. In addition to these remarkable collections, the chapel of Notre-Dame de l'Annonciade itself is quite charming, built by the Brotherhood of the White Penitents in 1510!
Entrance prices range from €4 to €6 depending on the time of year and current temporary exhibitions. All practical and useful information can be found on the official Mediterranean museums website.
Strolling Through the Alleys of Port-Grimaud
Not far from Saint-Tropez is Port-Grimaud, a lakeside town designed in the 1960s by architect François Spoerry; it's even called the Little Venice of Provence! This commune is famous for its picturesque canals, small bridges, and colorful façade houses! The most pleasant way to visit Port-Grimaud is to wander through the alleys and stroll along the docks to be dazzled...
Even better, you can board a boat for another perspective! The overall ambiance of Port-Grimaud is unique, romantic, and much more authentic than Saint-Tropez. It's also a great base if you're looking for a place to stay close to the flashy city ✨
The Festival of Nights at Château de la Moutte
Every year during the summer season, the Château de la Moutte hosts the Festival of Nights, a cultural event organizing dance shows and concerts in a historic setting! The castle was owned by Émile Ollivier starting in 1860, the last head of government of Napoleon III.
This beautiful residence extends to the Mediterranean and includes a magnificent botanical park! So if you plan to visit Saint-Tropez in the summer, you'll have the chance to participate in this unmissable event on the French Riviera while discovering the region's historical heritage ️
For more information about the festival's programming, visit the official website!
The Gendarmerie and Cinema Museum
Housed in the former gendarmerie of Saint-Tropez, this rather surprising museum pays tribute to Louis de Funès films, the most famous being The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez! It features exhibitions on the history of the gendarmerie and its representation in French cinema. Even better, you can admire many collectible items from the films, which will certainly bring back many memories!
The entrance ticket costs only €5, which is very affordable!
Sipping a Cocktail on a Rooftop!
Among the activities to do in Saint-Tropez, enjoying a good cocktail is a must... Even better, head to the best rooftop bars in the city, such as Les Toits Lounge, the most popular and sought-after venue of all. This bar is located on the rooftops of the Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez and is accessible all day until nightfall Here, you can enjoy delicious cocktails while enjoying lounge music... Of course, it goes without saying that the setting is luxurious, and the prices reflect that!
How to Get to Saint-Tropez?
Besides driving to Saint-Tropez, note that there is an international airport located in the municipality of La Môle, about a fifteen-minute drive away. Although small, it is nonetheless served by a few regular connections! Nice and Marseille airports are, in my opinion, the best options for easily reaching Saint-Tropez. Once there, just take the train
As for the bus and car, these are interesting options if you live nearby. However, when it comes to driving, it must be said that traffic is terrible, especially in the summer. Parking areas are also very expensive, and you'll struggle to find a free spot!
This article on activities available in Saint-Tropez is now over! I hope you now have plenty of ideas to occupy your vacation If you're considering traveling outside the city, I invite you to check out my articles: what to do on the French Riviera and what to do in Nice to learn more about the region's must-sees.
