Chiang Mai is a destination that attracts many tourists! Its atmosphere can be quite frenetic and busy, much like the state of traffic! That's why I strongly recommend staying in the city's most central neighborhoods, especially for first-time visitors! Otherwise, you'll end up wasting a lot of time on transportation...

Unsurprisingly, Thailand in general has a low cost of living. In other words, it's quite possible to stay in a high-end hotel for around fifty euros per night, if not less. However, book as soon as possible to not miss out!

Ideally, for a first trip, I recommend staying in the old city of Chiang Mai. You will be close to all the popular attractions, markets, temples, and shops. Alternatively, you can choose Nimman, a modern and festive neighborhood if you enjoy nightlife. If you don't have time to read the entire article, here are my favorite places to stay <-️

Practical and dynamic, this is the historical heart of Chiang Mai! The district is surrounded by walls and moats that testify to the cultural and architectural richness of the region. The old city is clearly an ideal place for a first visit or for a short stay!

The streets of the district are lined with majestic temples, traditional teak houses, and buildings with pagoda roofs. Wat Phra Singh, with its impressive Buddha statue, and Wat Chedi Luang, housing a large partially ruined stupa, are magnificent examples of Thai religious architecture, true masterpieces to see

Local life is vibrant, especially in the night markets, where stalls offer handcrafted products, traditional clothing, and a variety of Thai dishes. You can also discover traditional crafts in the workshops of the old city, where artisans create hand-painted umbrellas, wood sculptures, and other art pieces.

But that's not all; the neighborhood is host to many cultural and religious festivals. In short, the old city of Chiang Mai is the perfect place for visitors traveling with family or visiting for the first time. Staying in the old city will allow you to wander around Chiang Mai on foot, though you can also rent a scooter for very little

Nimmanhaemin, often shortened to Nimman, is a lively and trendy neighborhood in Chiang Mai. NORN Nimman 13 Boutique Hotel Chiang Mai: Located in the Nimmanhaemin neighborhood, this hotel features city views and offers access to an outdoor pool. The rooms are large, modern, and elegant, starting from 62 € per night, with breakfast included.

Tha Pae Gate is one of the entrances to the old city. This area mainly attracts travelers looking for transitional accommodations. However, it remains interesting for mid-range budgets as well as those wanting to sleep in an authentic setting!

Indeed, it is rich in history and cultural significance and remains an important symbol. Located to the east of the city center, it marks one of the main passages of the ancient city's enclosure, which once served as a protective fortress.

Built in the 14th century under the reign of King Mangrai, the founder of the Lanna dynasty, Tha Pae Gate reflects the architecture and style of the time. It is made up of red bricks and stones, with elaborate sculptures adorning the walls and arches. You can see statues of guardian lions, known as Singha, symbolizing power and protection.

Tha Pae Gate is also an ideal starting point for exploring Chiang Mai's old city, with its winding streets, historical temples, and lively markets. Tourists and locals often gather near the gate to enjoy the view and take photos...

If you're looking to stay in this area, know that this vicinity has the largest concentration of accommodations, with countless travel agencies, budget restaurants, internet cafes, and bars. THEE Vijit Lanna by TH District: This establishment is located 600 meters from Tha Pae Gate and less than 1 km from the city center! The complex is sublime, featuring an outdoor pool and a lush garden. The rooms are elegant and comfortable, starting at 100 € per night, with breakfast included.

The Night Bazaar is one of the city's most iconic attractions, immersive and alive with Thai culture and its local crafts... This night market takes place in the downtown streets from late afternoon until late evening. Plus, everything is very affordable at this market.

When you enter the Night Bazaar, you will be welcomed by a mosaic of colors, sounds, and smells. Stalls and kiosks line the streets, offering a vast range of handmade products, clothing, jewelry, artworks, leather goods, and much more!

Food lovers will be pleased to know that cuisine is also an equally important aspect of the Night Bazaar. Like the other neighborhoods mentioned in this guide, accommodations are quite abundant near the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai. Prices are very affordable, but if you dislike noise and commotion, this might not be the neighborhood I would recommend

The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between November and February. During these months, the region enjoys a dry and cool climate, with pleasant temperatures around 20 to 25 degrees.

This period is considered peak season, attracting tourists due to favorable weather conditions for exploring the city, its temples, and surrounding attractions. In my opinion, it's an excellent time to visit the area without suffering too much from the heat and humidity

On the other hand, if you travel between March and May, Chiang Mai enters its hot season, with temperatures that can rise above 30 degrees! The months from June to October constitute the rainy season, with frequent showers and high humidity... Not too pleasant.

Although accommodation and flight prices may be lower during these periods, these weather conditions could hinder your planned activities!
