Where to Stay in Monaco?
On the Mediterranean coast, Monaco is a glamorous vacation destination known for its high-end casinos and luxury hotels... If you've decided to visit Monaco soon, you're probably wondering where to stay in Monaco and which neighborhood to choose to enjoy a peaceful stay in the Principality!
When going on vacation, where to stay is a crucial question! In Monaco, it's imperative to book as early as possible to benefit from favorable rates... Whether to stay in Monte-Carlo, in the La Condamine area, or just outside the country in Beausoleil, your options are limited...
This guide will help you determine the ideal place to unpack your bags, as well as the best hotels in Monaco!
How to Find Accommodation in Monaco?
Monaco is not very large, only 208 hectares make up the Principality. It's one of the smallest city-states in the world, and several criteria must be considered when looking for accommodation!
Unsurprisingly, Monaco is a very expensive vacation destination, reserved for the elite, so you'll first need to plan the necessary money to find a hotel. The establishments are not very numerous, so book your room as soon as possible, while having a sufficiently flexible budget for a relaxing stay.
Monaco does not have many neighborhoods, which greatly limits your searches! If you cannot afford to stay within the territory, try Beausoleil, a neighboring town. Here, you will have a better chance of finding affordable accommodation, provided you don't lose too much time
In the continuation of this post, I'll introduce you to a few interesting neighborhoods to settle in Monaco. Alongside, you will discover some good hotel options! So, let's get started!
My ❤️ Hotels: Where to Stay in Monaco
Aparthotel Adagio Monaco offers fully equipped and comfortable independent accommodations in Beausoleil, at the entrance of Monaco for just $86 per night.
The Hotel de France has a very good price-to-quality ratio, accessible for just $139 a night, with well-decorated classic rooms on the Rock of Monaco.
Monaco Grand Prix Nouveau is an apartment located next to the Monaco train station, which I highly recommend for groups of friends and families visiting Monaco. It is available from $158 per night
Where to Stay in Monaco? In The Rock, the Historic Center!
This area known as The Rock is one of the most iconic sites in Monaco! It's likely the first place you'll take time to visit as it is filled with institutions and museums. For a stay, you will certainly enjoy a privileged setting as it is the historical center of the Principality.
Between the Cathedral of Monaco, the Prince's Palace, and the City Hall, the historic center is one of the most sought-after areas by tourists. The energy here is particularly pleasant and calm, despite the high tourist traffic, which is somewhat disconcerting given the reputation of The Rock of Monaco!
The Oceanographic Museum showcases beautiful Neo-Gothic architectural style and houses a remarkable aquarium. The building has an area of 6,000 km², making it the largest monument in Monaco, perched on a cliff, featuring around a hundred tanks for a collection of 350 species of fish!
The Rock of Monaco is a pedestrian zone; if you come to Monaco by car, park the vehicle in a hotel parking lot or outside the Principality. You will find shops, bars, restaurants, beautiful architecture, and a very small handful of very expensive accommodations, so book quickly.
Where to Stay on The Rock in Monaco?
Hotel de France is one of the cheapest places to stay in Monaco. It boasts an ideal location just a 10-minute walk from the Prince's Palace and Hercules Port. For $139 a night, you will stay in a pleasant, comfortable, and nicely decorated room with a bar and parking available.
Ambassador-Monaco is a modern and elegant establishment offering luxurious rooms just steps from the Monaco casinos. Although it is a bit "far" from the Prince's Palace and other attractions, about 1 km away, you will enjoy a great location from $236 a night, including breakfast.
Fontvieille, a Less Fancy and More Residential Neighborhood
Fontvieille is a neighborhood located in the western part of Monaco. The great advantage of staying here is that this area is not the most sought after by visitors. Industrial, it presents a lifestyle less glamorous than The Rock or Monte-Carlo, allowing you to enjoy a quiet stay
Nonetheless, the Fontvieille district benefits from an excellent location near the historical center. Even if its industrial character attracts fewer people, you can enjoy nice walks on the Sculpture Path and take some time for yourself by visiting the Princess Grace Rose Garden.
There are also some cultural sites such as the Naval Museum showcasing ship models, paintings, and maritime objects, as well as the Stamp Museum, founded in 1950 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, exhibiting his collections of coins, medals, bills, and historical stamps!
Finally, you can enjoy the second marina located in this district. Here you will find plenty of shops and amenities, as well as a shopping center for your retail therapy!
Where to Stay in Fontvieille, Monaco?
Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo is a beautiful establishment that offers very large, modern, and luxurious rooms with sea views starting at $181 per night. This hotel features various services and facilities: an outdoor pool, a restaurant, a bar, and a free shuttle in Monaco. The staff is very charming!
Riviera Marriott La Porte De Monaco is a 4-star establishment offering premium accommodations just steps from the Monaco border. For $161 a night, you will enjoy a luxurious room, an outdoor pool, a gym, a restaurant, and a bar.
Monte-Carlo, for a Luxurious and Exclusive Stay in Monaco
For travelers with a very comfortable vacation budget, Monte-Carlo is certainly one of the most prestigious destinations in Monaco. It is the most famous area of the Principality, known for its lavish casinos, Michelin-star restaurants, and exclusive high-end hotels!
In the Monte-Carlo area, the pleasures are varied, ranging from shopping for luxury items to delicious meals prepared by the world's top chefs. This exceptional neighborhood is renowned for housing the Monte-Carlo Casino, a true institution for gambling enthusiasts.
Where to Stay in Monte-Carlo?
Fairmont Monte Carlo is a lovely address for a dream vacation. This 4-star hotel offers very large modern rooms with balconies! It has 2 pools, a spa center, two rooftop restaurants, and a beautiful terrace with sea views. Available from $332 per night.
Novotel Monte-Carlo offers a convenient location near the Monaco railway station and just steps from the Monte-Carlo casino. It has spacious rooms starting at $200 per night. This 3-star hotel features a pool, restaurant, bar, hammam, sauna, and gym.
La Condamine, Monaco's Shopping District!
If you're looking for the perfect location in Monaco, La Condamine is made for you. Located between Monte-Carlo and The Rock of Monaco, you can easily navigate within the Principality. This shopping district offers various shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes to keep you busy outside of sightseeing!
Reputed to be the starting point of the Monaco F1 Grand Prix, the La Condamine neighborhood shares a beautiful living environment along Hercules Port. The marina is pleasant, the surrounding buildings and structures are stunning, and Princess Caroline Street will satisfy all shopping enthusiasts
I don't have much more to say about La Condamine. It's a good base to sleep in Monaco, with a central and ideal position to enjoy the waterfront. There are some interesting accommodations available, but I advise you to book as soon as possible to secure your stay!
Where to Stay in Monaco in the La Condamine Neighborhood?
Boutique Hotel Miramar is a pleasant establishment offering beautiful modern rooms for about $204 per night. Close to Monaco's popular attractions, you will enjoy a quiet stay and be welcomed by charming, discreet, and professional staff.
Monaco Grand Prix Nouveau is a very nice and functional vacation rental located near the Monaco train station. The accommodation includes a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a fully equipped kitchen, and a living room with a sofa bed. Available from $158 per night.
Beausoleil, Where to Stay Cheap Near Monaco!
Beausoleil will be the perfect base for travelers on a medium or tighter budget. This charming town on the border of Monaco is a great hub connected to Monte-Carlo. It is full of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets, and, of course, a wide variety of accommodations!
Being located at Monaco's doorstep, Beausoleil could have been called Upper Monte-Carlo since, if you look at the map, the neighborhood and the town share the same territory. Although it's just a detail, staying in Beausoleil will satisfy those wishing to stay as close as possible to Monte-Carlo.
Vacation rentals, high-end hotels, standard hotel rooms, Beausoleil caters to all traveler profiles with its diverse offers. Nevertheless, the town remains highly sought after due to its location and the lower rates available here.
Finally, you can easily reach the Principality of Monaco on foot, which will provide an excellent opportunity for a beautiful walk under the Mediterranean sun. Of course, public transport is also efficient
Where to Stay in Beausoleil?
Aparthotel Adagio Monaco offers excellent value for money with minimum 25 m² apartments starting at $86 per night. Each accommodation is equipped with necessary amenities, including a functional kitchen, a bathroom, and a large double bed while being environmentally friendly.
Hotel Villa Boeri is 550 meters from the Monte Carlo casino and a 15-minute walk from the beaches! It offers pleasant budget rooms for $27 per night. The price-to-quality ratio is good, the staff is friendly, and you will especially enjoy a perfect location just steps from the Monaco border.
What Season to Choose for a Trip to Monaco?
Although the summer season is ideal for visiting Monaco and enjoying its most beautiful panoramas, it is also the peak tourist season! Attendance and prices increase drastically... For a relaxing stay and to ensure access to a more affordable establishment, travel between April and May or between September and October!
Spring and autumn are perfect for going to Monaco! The Mediterranean temperatures are pleasant and less stifling, tourist crowds are low, and prices are more attractive.
How to Get to Monaco?
To get to Monaco, both car and plane are very interesting options. If you're questioning about the visa, for French nationals, entering the Principality requires no visa!
You can very well fly there. The nearest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport, located 22 kilometers from Monaco, which is about a 25-minute drive via the highway. There are sometimes cheap flights to Nice with new low-cost airlines like Volotea or EasyJet. I suggest comparing prices on a comparison site like Ulysse to get the best rates
By car, from Paris, you will need to take the A6 and A7 highways towards Nice, then continue on the A8/E80, still towards Nice. Take exit 56 towards Monaco/Beausoleil/Cap-d'Ail. Once there, I recommend parking your car in the hotel parking lot and doing your travels on foot.
My article on the best places to stay in Monaco is finished. I hope I've shed some light on the subject. If you're wondering where to stay in Nice or what to do in Cannes, I invite you to check out my articles
