Itineraries in Germany
Here is a summary of our travels and itineraries in Germany over the past 3 years. Instead of going chronologically, I will try to follow a geographical logic, starting from the northern lands by the Baltic Sea.
When I was a child, traveling to Germany, to be honest, never excited me. I dreamed of the south and the sun, like many of my gray compatriots. I imagined Germany as cold and gray, a uniform stain on the map of the world. If I mention it to you today, it's to share my favorites and discoveries, my surprises and astonishments. And above all, to correct that preconceived notion shared by too many people. Because Germany is beautiful and diverse!
Traveling in Northern Germany: the Baltic Sea and Islands
It is often forgotten, but Germany also has the sea and beaches! Some of our best memories are found on little pieces of land there, between islands and peninsulas.
Our favorites:
The island of Rügen with :
- Jasmund National Park and its cliffs
- The Baumwipfelpad (literally >)
- The seaside resorts of Sellin and Binz
- Our stilt house at Im-JaichWasserferienwelt
As well as the nearby island of Hiddensee, for its beaches and lighthouse.
The Fischland-Darss-Zingst peninsula with :
- The pretty and artistic town of Zingst, a paradise for photographers
- Ahrenshoop, for its art and nature walks by the sea
- The Darsser Ort lighthouse and its national park between dunes and marshes
But also the cities of :
- Lübeck, for its leaning towers and numerous steeples, the atmosphere of its shopping streets and its alleys
- Bremen, to explore by foot and bike, thoroughly, and especially through its parks
- And the village of Worpswede, for walking in nature as if in a master painting

In the Heart of Germany in Harz: Lynx and Half-timbering
Our latest trip to Germany to date: the Harz region. A choice guided both by geographical attraction (after exploring the north and south, why not the center?) and our thirst for nature.
Our favorites
City side, timber-frame lovers will be delighted! Especially in:
- Wernigerode (special mention also for its fairy-tale castle)
- and Quedlinburg, whose cobbled streets captivated me.
In terms of nature, the Harz park has something for everyone!
A few activity ideas, beyond hiking: viewing lynx in the reserve or even taking the steam train. If you want more inspiration, our Harz stories are always available on Instagram.

Saxon Switzerland: Rock and Fairy Tale
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful landscapes I have had the chance to see in Europe! An incredible favorite for this region and its rock formations that seem to rise ever higher towards the sky, reminiscent of some great parks in the United States.
Our favorites
Rock, rock, and more rock! To climb, to admire while hiking, to photograph from all angles.
Not to be missed: the Bastei Bridge at sunrise, it's magical!

The Bavarian Alps: My Cabin by the Lake
Bavaria has always had a romantic flavor in my mind. Thanks to Sissi! What I discovered in this region is a dense, vibrant, and inspiring nature... On each of our trips to the Bavarian Alps, we have felt as if we were transported far, far away from time, far from home... A little cabin by the lake, and we believe we are in Canada!
In fact, a photo from our first trip to Berchtesgaden won the title of most beautiful landscape of the year in 2016!
Our favorites
The walk to the Obersee cabin.
The view of Hintersee at sunrise and the one it offers of the starlit sky once night falls.
The view of Konigsee from the Jennerbahn lodge.
The Almbach Gorge at Wimbachklamm for its waterfalls between rock and vegetation.
The stunning panoramic Rossfeldstraße road.
And in winter, don't miss the sledding experience at Rodelbahn Hirscheckblitz nor the deer watching in the Berchtesgaden National Park. And for an immersive winter experience, a snowshoe hike to the Stahlhaus lodge is worth it!

Saarland: Immersion in the Forest
Saarland holds a very special place in our hearts: it was our very first trip to Germany. That's where the veil began to lift. There, we were able to gain perspective on our stereotypes about this beautiful country. Thank you, Saarland!
Saarland has several advantages: it's not far from the border with France and Belgium, it's a very nature-oriented region... and it has one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the country!
Our favorites
Our ultimate favorite in this region: Saarschleife (Cloefpfad), the famous loop on the river that describes a > around an islet of land. To be admired without moderation morning, noon, and night... not to mention at night to watch the stars!
As for activities, here are a few ideas: build a raft, sleep in a suspended tent, hike, paddle, birdwatch...

Discovering Germany Through Our Travels
I would never dare say that I > Germany, much less that I > this country. After our seven trips, I feel like I am merely brushing the surface of its diversity and richness.
I dream of getting lost again in its mountains, to stroll on cobbled streets among sun-drenched terraces, and to indulge in the many vegan restaurants in the capital... One day!
I hope this article helps you rethink certain preconceived notions about this country and, who knows, to imagine it as a future destination for a beautiful trip. Sometimes, you don't have to go far to find wonder and a change of scenery...
