Best Things to Do:

Introduction

Are you planning to visit London during the last month of the year? The capital of the United Kingdom has a lot to offer throughout the year, and it becomes even more exciting during the holiday season, although I admit that the weather conditions are not the most ideal. If you want a preview of what to expect during a trip to London at the end of the year, then you're on the right page. In this post, I will cover all aspects of a visit to London in December!

The Weather in London in December

December is one of the cooler months of the year in London. The London climate in December is not the most favorable for travel, but temperatures are not as low as you might think. On average, the temperature is around 7 degrees Celsius during the day. Mornings and evenings are cold, and nights can be chilly .

The weather is relatively dry compared to other times of the year, but precipitation is still quite common in London, and the sky is mostly cloudy in December. Snowfall is not uncommon, as well as fog. Weather conditions can also be very changeable. Days last about 7 hours and 30 minutes on average during December in London. The sun rises between 8:00 AM and 8:20 AM and sets around 4:00 PM.

If you are traveling to London in December, the climate certainly won't ruin your experience, but you will need to plan accordingly by bringing warm clothing and primarily considering indoor activities, which are plentiful in the British capital!

December: A Great Month to Discover London?

From a meteorological perspective, conditions are not very pleasant in London in December, although you might get to spend a snowy Christmas here ⛄️. It can also happen that some attractions are inaccessible due to the weather. However, the climate isn't everything, and it's essential to consider more factors.

There is another disadvantage besides the weather, at least for part of December, which is the tourist crowds. The numbers aren't too high at the beginning of the month but increase steadily, and the second half of December is indeed one of the busiest times of the year for the city. As a result, prices rise, especially for flights, train tickets, and hotel rooms. For this reason, I recommend that you book your flight tickets in advance and consider skip-the-line tickets for some attractions that are often crowded.

Days are very short in December, which can be a disadvantage sometimes, but not always, as it gives you more time to admire the Christmas lights ✨.

Other than that, there are many positives, and there's no doubt that December is an excellent month to visit London. All the major must-see attractions in the city can be visited, the city has a unique atmosphere, and many events are organized during the last weeks of the year. It is located outside the city center, but you can take this opportunity to visit another significant attraction, the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.
